Temporary Closures at Cape Hatteras National Seashore
As of September 24, all off-road vehicle ramps at Cape Hatteras National Seashore have been closed temporarily due to worsening coastal conditions. The decision was made in response to unsafe driving conditions that increase the likelihood of vehicles getting stranded during high tide.
Access Restrictions for Public Safety
In addition to the ramp closures, access to the beach stretching from the northern boundary of Rodanthe to Atlantic Drive in Rodanthe is also restricted. This area has been deemed unsafe due to multiple threatened structures located along the oceanfront, which present potential hazards to public safety. According to the National Park Service, these measures are necessary to protect both visitors and the environment.
