The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is inviting the public to provide feedback on its Peregrine Falcon Conservation Plan until November 12, 2026. This initiative addresses the needs of the peregrine falcon, a species that is recognized as endangered in the state.
The conservation plan includes essential biological data, outlines the reasons behind nest failures, and sets forth conservation objectives and potential strategies aimed at sustaining the breeding population of peregrine falcons in North Carolina. The plan is intended to serve as a comprehensive guide for the agency’s conservation efforts.
Public Involvement and Next Steps
Once the public comment period concludes, NCWRC staff will review the feedback and present a finalized draft to the agency’s Commissioners for consideration at their meeting scheduled for December 10, 2026. Upon approval, the plan will act as a framework for ongoing conservation work involving the peregrine falcons.
Comments can be submitted online, where the conservation plan is also accessible for review. For inquiries regarding the plan, Chris Kelly, the primary author, can be contacted via email.
