Niner Nation Week Unites Alumni Across Charlotte
From corporate settings to residential neighborhoods, Niner Nation Week: Homecoming 2026 fostered alumni connections throughout Charlotte. The initiative, led by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, encouraged participants to engage with one another in various workplaces and living communities.
Participants might discover that they share office space with a fellow Niner or that a Niner resides just down the hall. The event took place at notable locations including Bank of America, Truist, Vanguard, and properties managed by Greystar, allowing alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and meet fellow graduates in surprising venues.
Strong Engagement Numbers Highlight Success
The engagement during Niner Nation Week was notable, with 19 corporate partners involved, including 12 organizations participating for the first time. There were over 530 alumni interactions, reflecting a 104% increase in engagement compared to the previous year. This year’s initiative also included collaborations with four Greystar communities and emphasized the unity of Niner Nation.
At the heart of the initiative was UNC Charlotte’s Corporate Pop-Up program, which brought Niner Nation Week directly to workplaces. This included events at Bank of America, Truist, TIAA, and Vanguard, where alumni not only reconnected with their university but also connected with fellow graduates within their companies.
Reinforcing Community and Professional Ties
Steven Serio, a 2015 graduate and alumni advocate at Bank of America, noted the significance of these connections. “Bringing UNC Charlotte directly to our alumni that work at Bank of America helps remind them that being a Niner doesn’t end at graduation,” he stated. This initiative not only fosters school pride but also reinforces the partnership between the university and corporate workplaces, enhancing talent recruitment and professional development opportunities.
Robbie Doran, a 2007 graduate and alumni champion at Vanguard, expressed enthusiasm for the event. “It was really exciting to bring Niner Nation Week to Vanguard and see so many fellow Niners come together,” he said, highlighting the importance of building a strong alumni network.
Community Engagement Through Residential Partnerships
The outreach of Niner Nation Week extended beyond offices into local neighborhoods through a new collaboration with Greystar, a prominent rental housing company. The initiative reached four residential communities in the Charlotte area: NOVEL University Place, LANA at Lake Norman Apartments, The Rowe at Commonwealth, and Radius Dilworth Apartments. These communities hosted themed gatherings, creating opportunities for residents to engage with the university and with each other.
Through these events, Niner Nation continues to be an integral part of Charlotte’s community, building connections that extend from the workplace to the neighborhood.
Future Opportunities for Connection
Organizations interested in hosting Niner Nation Week events or exploring partnerships with UNC Charlotte are encouraged to reach out to the Corporate Engagement team. This year’s corporate partners included returning participants such as Bank of America, Deloitte, and LPL Financial, alongside newcomers like Ally Financial and Red Ventures, further diversifying the network of Niners across the region.
