UNCG Introduces New Student Success Platform
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is set to enhance student support with the introduction of Minerva360, a new comprehensive platform aimed at improving student success. This initiative is scheduled to be implemented in Fall 2027, replacing the current Starfish system.
Minerva360 will integrate various functions such as academic advising, early alerts, and student communication into a single platform, fostering greater collaboration among faculty and staff to better assist students throughout their academic experiences.
A Holistic Approach to Support
Regina McCoy, Vice Provost for Retention and Student Success, emphasized the importance of Minerva360 in addressing student needs. She noted that students have expressed a desire for easier access to help and clearer pathways to connect with the right resources. McCoy stated, “Minerva360 is an investment in delivering exactly that,” highlighting its role in facilitating proactive support and recognizing students as whole individuals.
The name Minerva360 draws inspiration from Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom and learning, which aligns with UNCG’s mission to guide students toward academic achievement. The “360” signifies a comprehensive approach to student support, acknowledging the diverse elements that contribute to a student’s success.
Enhanced Features for Faculty and Staff
Minerva360 is designed to provide advanced tools for faculty, advisors, and support staff, enabling them to better identify student needs and coordinate their efforts. Key features of the platform will include:
- Enhanced early alerts and predictive analytics to proactively support students who may need additional outreach.
- A shared system that improves collaboration by consolidating advising information and student support activities.
- Simplified communication through targeted messages and integrated appointment scheduling, making it easier for students to obtain assistance.
- A virtual assistant that will help students access information and connect with campus resources.
These enhancements aim to create a more cohesive experience for students while offering faculty and staff new ways to facilitate student success.
Implementation Timeline and Future Steps
The implementation of Minerva360 is currently in progress and will extend through the 2026–27 academic year. The project team is collaborating with various campus partners to configure the platform and develop necessary processes in preparation for its launch.
As the implementation continues, opportunities for feedback, training, and demonstrations will be made available to ensure faculty and staff are well-prepared for the transition.
While Minerva360 won’t be operational for another year, the groundwork being laid promises a more integrated and proactive approach to student support at UNCG.
