Library Program Expands Community Support
The Iredell County Public Library is excited to announce the ongoing operation of its Community Navigator program at the Statesville branch, thanks to a collaboration with Appalachian State University (ASU). This initiative aims to enhance the library’s engagement with the community by assisting residents in accessing vital resources and services while minimizing obstacles to support.
Personalized Assistance Offered
The Community Navigator offers individualized guidance and referrals for individuals in need of various services, including housing, food, healthcare, transportation, legal aid, employment, and educational opportunities. The program has broadened its impact through initiatives like the library’s Kindness Closet, local food pantry collaborations, and the Mobile Library service.
Meet the New Intern
The library has welcomed Virgil Chavez as its new Community Navigator intern. A native of Statesville, Chavez graduated with a degree in psychology from Guilford College and is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work at ASU. He is dedicated to fostering a welcoming and secure environment for all library visitors seeking assistance.
Bilingual Support Available
Since starting his role, Chavez has been instrumental in providing essential bilingual support, including Spanish translation and interpretation, as well as connections to resources for housing, employment, and food. In his free time, he enjoys participating in soccer, basketball, football, WWE, music, and gaming.
How to Access Services
The hours for the Community Navigator program vary on Mondays and Tuesdays.
