Fayetteville State University Prepares for New Student Arrival
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Fayetteville State University (FSU) is set to welcome a new cohort of students starting August 12 during its STRIDE Welcome Week, an initiative designed to help incoming Broncos acclimate to campus life ahead of the fall semester. Early move-in for out-of-state freshmen and participants in the Matriculation Success Academy will commence at 8 a.m. on that day.
STRIDE, which stands for Students Taking Responsibility in Developing Excellence, aims to engage new students through various activities that foster connections and familiarize them with the university environment.
Operation Smooth Move Facilitates Transition
Juanette Council, Ed.D., vice chancellor for student affairs, emphasized the importance of STRIDE Welcome Week in ensuring that students start their college journey on solid footing. “STRIDE Welcome Week is an important part of how we welcome students into the Fayetteville State community and help them begin their college experience with confidence,” she stated.
A key component of the week is Operation Smooth Move, FSU’s organized move-in process for first-year and transfer students residing on campus. General move-in is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on August 13, with students assigned specific arrival times based on their last names to streamline the process and reduce congestion around the residence halls.
Activities to Enhance Student Engagement
During Operation Smooth Move, students will have the opportunity to settle into their accommodations, obtain university identification cards, meet with academic advisers and counselors, and complete their course registration. Families will also be invited to explore the campus and seek answers to any questions as students gear up for the upcoming semester.
The STRIDE Welcome Week will run until August 16 and will feature a significant event: the Class of 2030 Pinning Ceremony. Scheduled for 11 a.m. on August 15 in the J.W. Seabrook Auditorium, the ceremony will see Chancellor Darrell T. Allison formally welcome the new freshmen into the Bronco family, during which students will recite a pledge and receive an FSU lapel pin.
Support from Faculty and Staff
Throughout the move-in days, faculty, staff, alumni, and student volunteers will be available across the campus to assist new students and their families as they navigate this transitional period.
The STRIDE guide is also accessible via the Guidebook app for real-time updates and notifications during the week.
Fall classes are scheduled to begin on August 17.
