North Carolina’s craft beverage scene will be showcased at the N.C. State Fair with the return of the N.C. Wine, Cider and Mead Garden from October 15 to 25. This event will highlight the state’s rich diversity in wines, hard ciders, and meads, featuring products from various regions, including mountain vineyards, apple orchards, the Sandhills, and the coastal plain.
Situated in Heritage Circle, adjacent to the Blacksmith Shop, the garden will provide fair attendees an opportunity to explore a wide range of beverages. From dry wines and traditional styles to sweeter options, muscadine varieties, and fruit-forward ciders, the offerings cater to a variety of tastes, affirming that there is truly “a taste for everyone.”
Celebrating Local Craftsmanship
Nicole Chesney, executive director of the N.C. Wine and Grape Council, expressed enthusiasm for the garden’s return, emphasizing its role in celebrating the craftsmanship and tradition of North Carolina’s beverage producers. “Heritage Circle is such a natural fit for this experience because it celebrates North Carolina craftsmanship and tradition,” Chesney noted. She encouraged both seasoned enthusiasts and newcomers to discover the local offerings.
The garden not only showcases a selection of wines, ciders, and meads but also supports the farmers and producers behind these distinctive beverages. Attendees will have the chance to taste their way through the state’s beverage landscape without leaving the fairgrounds.
Wineries and Cideries Participating
A diverse array of wineries will take part in the event, including Parker-Binns Vineyard from Mill Spring, Childress Vineyards in Lexington, and Duplin Winery based in Rose Hill, among others. Cider producers such as Barndoor Ciderworks from Fairview and Bull City Ciderworks in Durham will also showcase their products.
The mead sector will be represented by Stardust Cellars from Wilkesboro, adding another unique offering to the garden’s lineup. This variety underscores the local agricultural heritage and the innovative spirit of North Carolina’s craft beverage industry.
This year’s N.C. Wine, Cider and Mead Garden promises to be a vibrant celebration for fairgoers looking to explore the flavors of North Carolina’s rich craft beverage culture.
