RALEIGH — The 2026 North Carolina State Fair is set to take place from October 15 to 25, continuing its tradition of combining classic attractions with exciting new features. This year, attendees can look forward to the introduction of a 230-foot-tall Ferris wheel, two thrilling new rides, and a variety of entertainment options, including country ham competitions and demonstrations.
Among the highlights is the America 250 Wheel, which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States. This massive observation wheel will provide breathtaking views from 75 feet higher than the previous Skygazer wheel, with the ability to see up to 14 miles. It will feature 45 gondolas, each themed around U.S. presidents, and will require a separate ticket for access.
Special Events and Activities
On Wednesday, October 21, Duke Energy Military Appreciation Day will honor military personnel and National Guard members by offering free admission to them and three guests who present appropriate identification. The day’s festivities will include a parade starting at 10 a.m., a military program, and live performances by the 440th Army Band on the Live and Local Music Stage.
In terms of rides, the fair will debut two exciting additions: Twin Twister and Casino. The Twin Twister features two rotating platforms that move in opposite directions, providing a thrilling experience that culminates in a full 360-degree rotation. The Casino ride, designed to resemble a giant roulette wheel, will spin riders in various directions while its base rotates.
Entertainment and Attractions
The fair will also showcase a variety of new entertainment options, including performances by the popular One-Man Band, who will present four shows daily near the Scott Building. Additionally, the Americana 250 Band Organ will provide festive, carnival-themed music, reminiscent of traditional fair attractions.
Each evening, a Patriotic Light Show will dazzle audiences near Kiddieland in Cotton Park, featuring synchronized music and lights starting at 6 p.m. and repeating hourly until 11 p.m.
Culinary Highlights and Competitions
After a 27-year hiatus, country ham competitions will return to the fair, with judging scheduled for October 15 at 1 p.m. in Dorton Arena. Attendees can also enjoy demonstrations on curing and cooking ham later that day and on October 19.
Food will play a significant role at this year’s fair, with over 80 new and innovative food items being introduced, including flavors inspired by Biscoff cookies and Hawaiian rolls. The complete list of new menu items will be available on the N.C. State Fair’s Facebook page in early October.
Facility Upgrades
This year marks the completion of the new Midway Events Center, which will host food vendors and provide seating during the fair. Future plans for the facility include year-round dining options and a conference space for rent. Additionally, significant renovations to the Flower Show Building and Holshouser Building have been completed, including air conditioning in the Holshouser Building.
Advance tickets for the N.C. State Fair are currently available for purchase until October 15. The fair promises a unique experience for all attendees, featuring free entertainment, rides, competitions, and a variety of food options. For more details, visit www.ncstatefair.org.
