Award Recognition for UNCG Tutor
Kenzie Stewart, a peer tutor specializing in psychology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Academic Achievement Center (AAC), has received the prestigious Tutor of the Year Award from the North Carolina Tutoring and Learning Association.
Career Advancement and Leadership
Stewart began her journey at the AAC as a psychology tutor while completing her undergraduate degree. This year, she advanced to the position of lead tutor, a role that highlights her expertise, dependability, and emerging leadership qualities, as well as the confidence that both staff and students have in her abilities. Fallon Puckett, assistant director for tutoring and testing services, noted that what distinguishes Stewart is her ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with her students.
“Kenzie doesn’t treat tutoring as a transaction,” Puckett stated. “She brings real care to every student, and it shows.”
Building Trust with Students
This dedication is evident in the number of students who return to seek her guidance. Many students prefer to schedule recurring sessions with Stewart to enhance their grasp of psychology topics, indicating a deeper level of engagement than simply seeking one-time assistance. This sustained interaction illustrates the trust and rapport she has established with her students, along with her ability to provide instruction that transcends basic review.
Contributions Beyond Tutoring
Stewart’s influence is not limited to her individual tutoring sessions. She has proactively formed collaborations with psychology faculty to create more accessible tutoring resources for students. Her efforts have also played a significant role in diminishing the stigma associated with requesting academic assistance, thus contributing positively to the AAC’s mission and fostering a supportive culture within the department.
Celebrating Kenzie’s Achievements
The Tutor of the Year Award highlights the exceptional qualities Stewart brings to her role, including her strong command of the subject matter, genuine concern for her students, initiative beyond her designated duties, and leadership among her colleagues. The recognition serves as a testament to her dedication and impact at UNCG.
Congratulations to Kenzie Stewart on this well-deserved honor!
