Fentanyl Trafficking Investigation Concludes
North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) special agents have wrapped up a month-long probe into the trafficking of fentanyl at establishments licensed by the ABC in Spring Lake and the Anderson Creek area of Harnett County.
Substantial Drug Seizures Made
The investigation resulted in the seizure of over 30 grams of fentanyl, which amounts to approximately 15,400 lethal doses. The drugs were obtained from Christopher William Johnston, who was arrested on October 22. Undercover ALE agents conducted several purchases at ABC-licensed venues in Spring Lake, leading to Johnston’s apprehension.
A search warrant was executed at Johnston’s residence located at 185 N. Peggy St. in Spring Lake, where law enforcement officials discovered additional illegal substances, including cocaine, opioids, psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana, and more than $12,000 in cash.
Arrest and Charges
During the arrest, Johnston attempted to evade capture by driving toward law enforcement officers, resulting in minor injuries to one agent. He has been taken into custody at the Harnett County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. Johnston faces multiple serious charges, including ten counts of felony trafficking in fentanyl and two counts of felony conspiracy to traffic in fentanyl, among others.
Additional Arrests Expected
Nicholas Jacob Johnston, Christopher’s brother, has also been charged in relation to the investigation but has not yet been arrested. Nicholas faces three counts of felony trafficking in fentanyl and additional charges related to drug paraphernalia.
According to ALE, the investigation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking within the region.
