UNO Supper Club Brings Students Together
A unique dining experience at UNC Greensboro recently combined a thoughtfully organized dinner with elements inspired by the popular card game UNO, resulting in an evening of enjoyment and camaraderie. Spartan Dining collaborated with the UNCG UNO Club to host the “UNO Supper Club” on September 29 at Fountain View Dining Hall, where ten selected students were invited to bring a friend and join members of the UNO Club board for a night of culinary innovation and community engagement.
The evening’s premise was straightforward: unite students over a shared meal while infusing a bit of competition into the mix.
Colorful Culinary Creations
The UNO Supper Club reimagined a conventional dining experience into an interactive multi-course event, drawing inspiration from the vibrant colors of the UNO card game. Guests began the night by enjoying mocktails and appetizers before Campus Executive Chef Darelle Bey introduced the evening’s dishes. Meanwhile, UNO Club members outlined the tournament rules, preparing participants for the friendly competition ahead.
Each course was designed with the game’s color scheme in mind:
- Green — appetizer: Avocado and basil pesto crostini paired with sliced cucumber and arugula
- Yellow — entrée: Lemon-herb roasted chicken breast served on sweet corn risotto, topped with charred corn relish
- Red — dessert: New York-style cheesecake complemented by a strawberry coulis
Beverages further enhanced the colorful theme, offering students a choice between a blue butterfly pea tea mocktail and a yellow mango coconut fresca-tail. As courses were served, participants engaged in rounds of UNO, with the excitement building as the competition progressed. The night concluded with a final round, determining the tournament champion and providing an opportunity for students to challenge UNO Club members.
Fostering Connections Through Shared Meals
While college offers countless chances to meet new people, forming meaningful connections can be difficult. The UNO Supper Club aimed to cultivate a friendly atmosphere where students could step away from their routines, enjoy a meal together, and interact with those they may not typically meet.
This objective was realized as the evening unfolded. What started as a quiet gathering gradually evolved into a lively celebration filled with laughter and friendly competition. As the game rounds progressed, conversations became more animated, with participants cheering each other on and unfamiliar faces turning into friendly rivals.
By the end of the night, students were exchanging contact information and making plans, leaving with newfound friendships that extended beyond the dining hall.

Collaborating with groups like the UNCG UNO Club not only highlights student interests but also reinforces campus connections and cultivates an inclusive environment. This event served as a powerful reminder that dining experiences can transcend mere sustenance. When students are provided with opportunities to gather, engage, and explore new experiences, a simple meal can lay the foundation for lasting relationships.
