New Academic Support Location Opens at UNCG
The Communication Lab and the Academic Achievement Center (AAC) are collaborating to introduce coaching and consulting services at a new satellite site in Ragsdale-Mendenhall Residence Hall, starting on November 2. This initiative aims to enhance existing academic support available at the Communication Lab in MHRA 3211 and the AAC in Main Library Room 023, providing students with an additional accessible option during the demanding final weeks of the semester.
Initiative Inspired by Faculty Collaboration
The establishment of this satellite location is attributed to Michele Lemonius, an Academic Professional Assistant Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies, who also serves as faculty-in-residence in the Historic Quad and Ragsdale-Mendenhall. Lemonius emphasized that the initiative seeks to eliminate geographical obstacles to student achievement by fostering a relaxed, accessible environment for academic assistance. Students can now easily drop in for coaching and consulting sessions within the residence hall.
Convenient Access for All Students
Situated near the Housing and Residence Life offices, the Gove Student Health Center, and Fountain View Dining, the satellite location aims to improve accessibility to academic resources, particularly for first-year students. While it is located within a residence hall, the facility is open to all students enrolled at UNCG, regardless of their housing arrangements.
Student Enthusiasm for New Services
Abby Stubblefield, an undergraduate consultant at the Communication Lab, expressed her enthusiasm about providing support in a central campus area. She noted that having additional assistance available on that side of campus would be beneficial for students.
The new satellite location will operate every other Monday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., beginning on November 2. Faculty and staff are encouraged to inform students who might find academic support valuable during this crucial period of the semester.
