Quarterly Book Sale Scheduled for October 24
The Friends of Rowan Public Library are set to host their quarterly book sale on October 24, offering a range of books suitable for all ages. This event aims to support various programs and services that benefit the residents of Rowan County.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own bags or boxes to carry their purchases, though wagons will not be allowed in the sale area. For those in need, Friends of RPL will have bags available for purchase at the event. Additionally, donations of gently used books will be accepted; however, the group cannot take textbooks, newspapers, magazines, VHS tapes, or encyclopedias.
Affordable Options and Community Support
Payment will be accepted in multiple forms, including cash, Apple Pay, and major credit cards. Lyndsey Maloney, the Technical Services Supervisor for RPL, is in charge of organizing these sales. She noted that shoppers can look forward to a diverse selection, with most items priced at $4 or less. “Every purchase helps support the Friends of Rowan Public Library’s efforts to enhance library programs and services that benefit our entire community,” she stated.
The upcoming book sale coincides with the last day of Friends of Libraries Week, which honors the volunteers and supporters dedicated to strengthening public libraries nationwide. For the Rowan Public Library and its communities, the Friends of RPL significantly contribute to expanding resources for readers and families. Hosting the sale on this notable day adds an extra layer of significance to the event.
Impact of Sale Proceeds
Library Services Manager Laurie Lyda expressed gratitude for the Friends group, emphasizing their commitment to the library’s success. The quarterly sales serve as an alternative to the Friends of RPL’s Second Saturday Bookshop, which is currently closed. Funds raised from these events have supported various initiatives, including the year-round Virtual Author Talks series, the Summer Reading Big Show for children, and various prize incentives for all ages. Proceeds from the upcoming sale will directly contribute to funding additional library programs.
Seeking a New Location for the Bookshop
In addition to promoting the book sale and celebrating Friends of Libraries Week, the Friends of RPL are actively looking for a new location for their Bookshop. Those interested in sponsoring or providing a venue are encouraged to reach out to Jenny Hubbard via email to explore potential opportunities.
Residents who wish to become Friends of RPL can find details about membership options and volunteer opportunities. An individual membership is available for $10 per year. For inquiries regarding the quarterly book sales, individuals can call 704-216-8242.
