Upcoming Employee Engagement Survey at NC State
Between October 21 and November 11, 2026, faculty and staff at North Carolina State University will have the chance to participate in the university’s Employee Engagement Survey. This survey will be distributed to all permanent full-time employees—those working at least 75% of the time—who were on staff as of July 1, 2026.
Survey Focus and Past Improvements
This online survey, which occurs every two years and was first implemented in 2018, assesses various aspects of employee satisfaction, such as well-being, job fulfillment, communication, professional growth, and effectiveness of supervisors. Insights gathered from previous surveys have guided NC State in enhancing employee experiences, including improvements in orientation for new hires, the introduction of a personal observance leave benefit, and upgrades to the Management Essentials training for newly appointed or promoted supervisors and managers.
Administration of the Survey
NC State has partnered with ModernThink, an independent consulting firm, to oversee the survey process. This organization has previously collaborated with the UNC System Office for earlier survey implementations. On October 21, each employee will receive a unique link from ModernThink that cannot be shared. Employees who do not receive the link are encouraged to reach out to ModernThink’s helpline at (888) 684-4658.
Access and Confidentiality
The survey can be accessed on any computer or mobile device and is designed to take approximately 15 minutes to complete. However, employees will have up to 30 minutes during their regular working hours to finish the survey. Participation does not require using lunch breaks or leave time, and the survey will be available in both English and Spanish.
Participants can save their progress and return to complete the survey if needed, but all responses must be submitted by November 11 to be counted. The survey is voluntary and confidential.
Instructions for Recent Transfers
Employees who have recently switched departments should base their survey responses on the unit they were part of on July 1, 2026.
For further queries regarding the survey, individuals can refer to the Frequently Asked Questions page. For any technical difficulties, contact Nancy Whelchel, Ph.D., assistant vice provost for institutional survey research and analysis, via email.
